Uptown Shopping Center is one of our favorite places in Richland; home to many small local businesses and restaurants.  They host a variety of events throughout the year including dog walks, the Chalk Art Festival, Halloween festivities, and Cool Desert Nights (a classic car and street rod event).  Our favorite local shops are Adventures Underground  (a book/game/comic store that our kids love as much as we do), the The Spudnut Shop  (best potato-flour doughnuts ever, est. in 1948 and located in Uptown since 1950!), and the many antique/vintage shops that are full of treasures.  Jefferson Park is conveniently located right across the street, so you can  order your lunch to go and make it a picnic.

The Chalk Art Festival takes place Saturday, June 9th, 2012 at the Uptown Shopping Center.  The Festival begins at 9 a.m.  Registration is $5-$12 and includes an assigned sidewalk square and chalk for drawing.   Free for spectators.  Awards are given for different themes and age groups.  You can pre-register at Amber Rose, Cafe Connection, or Octopus Garden, or just show up on the morning of the 9th.  If you aren’t an artist, you’ll enjoy being a spectator!  All ages welcome.
